Lamar CISD and Wharton County Junior College have formed a five-year partnership to give high school students opportunities to earn college credit and pursue certificates while completing their high school requirements. Representatives signed the agreement Oct. 1 at the LCISD Career and Technical Education Center, and the partnership was announced Oct. 8.

The first two pathways will be business office technology at Terry High School and engineering design technology at Gene Tomas High School. Students can earn up to 15 dual-credit hours while progressing toward an associate degree through WCJC.

All Lamar CISD high school students may apply. The programs have no GPA requirements or prerequisites other than enrolling in two dual-credit pathway programs. Lamar CISD’s career and technical education program will cover the $64-per-credit-hour course cost, while students and families will pay for required books and materials.

Recruitment will continue through October and November during course selection. Students are scheduled to begin the pathways in fall 2027.
